QUESTION:
which e reader would be best to buy. Can you download books from amazon onto a kindle from Australia?
Trying to work out whether the Ipad is going to clean up the market as far as ebooks go. I'm wondering if it's worth waiting before buying an ereader.

 ANSWER:
Kindle is sure a worth buying. Wireless is a unique feature I will say and that's make really value for money. 3G wireless and global coverage, I personally travel a lot and really worthy for me. You can have any newspaper at any place and also they are cheaper. The best selling value for the Kindle is convenience for the travel, it’s pretty handy and easy to carry anywhere with you. The other important thing matters to me are speedy for downloading books and reading material. Also it allow around average size of 1500 books and reading material to store, so is a significant amount of storage space to bring with you. In one line I can say “you are carrying your book shelf with you”.
Also one of the other feature of Kindle is it’s E-INK screen technology that don’t glare in any light so no strain to eyes and you can read for hours.

Also you save a lot in compare to the actual books, the books on kindle are really cheaper so I have saved a lot till now. Also there are plenty of books on kindle to choose. Also it has so good features such as Text-To-Speech which is really useful when you get bored or doing some other activity.

 QUESTION:
How much does it cost to ship a kindle 2 and a cover to Australia?
I'm wondering about the costs of shipping from amazon; can you please name the prices for all the differnt shipping methods such as priority shipping, one-day shipping, two-day shipping, standard and etc.etc if possible. Thank you.

can you please convert the prices into australians dollars too? thank you so much for your help!

 ANSWER:
You can see here for the shipping cost of Australia:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fhelp%2Fcustomer%2Fdisplay.html%3Fie%3DUTF8%26nodeId%3D596190%26ref_%3Dhp%255Fnavbox%255F596184%255Ftips&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

And here is the latest rate for USD changed to AUD. I think just multiply the total USD with 1.08 and you'll know roughly how much AUD in total:

http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi?Amount=1&From=USD&To=AUD&x=40&y=10

I own the Kindle 2 and I like it very much. Actually Amazon has slashed the price recently and it is now selling US0 cheaper than the price I got my Kindle device, and it added the free international wireless feature. So I think even with the shipping cost and import tax (if any), you can still get it cheaper than I did.

Finally, I remember I read these reviews when I decided to get my Kindle device, see if you're interested:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR2DUM7S4XW06QN%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB00154JDAI%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Kindle vs Nook The Ebook Reader Wars Customer Wins!

Author: Dave Benson

The Kindle versus Nook ebook reader competition is certainly hotting up, with a massive market demand for these devices the big boys are throwing their all into grabbing their share but which one is best?

(*Authors note: The features and prices are constantly changing so to get up to date info check the links at the bottom. Regards Dave)

The ever improving features of both the Kindle and the Nook means that the differences between the two are diminishing all the time.

So, lets take a quick look at what is on offer. We compare the 3g/WiFi enabled versions of each.

The features of the latest Amazon Kindle 3G WiFi include:

The latest E-Ink screen for better contrast and readability, you can read your Kindle in bright daylight so reading Dickens on the beach is a possibility.

Enhanced battery life so you can carry on reading for longer. Around seven days according to users

Storage capability of around three and half thousand books.

Light and portable as a real book, weighing only just over eight ounces it slips easily into you bag.

Huge library, nearly three quarters of a million books available to buy and nearly two million free books which are public domain or out of copyright.

Easy downloads with the free wireless connectivity.

Features of the Barnes & Noble Nook include:

E-Ink screen as the Kindle. Sixteen tone gray with great contrast.

Secondary color screen for navigation, this make the device look slightly cleaner than the Kindle but really has nothing to do with the real purpose.

Weight is slighly more than the Kindle but the dimensions are a touch lower, still portable and easy to carry.

Battery life is not quite as good at around five days

Good library at just over a million titles but they are signing more and more as time goes by.

So, the features are fairly even so who has the edge in the Kindle vs Nook war?

I think it comes down to a couple of things which are pretty essential to the e-book reader arena, i.e. trust and content.

Whilst Amazon have stuck to their guns in the format of the Kindle ebooks they do support a variety of other formats such as Microsoft Word (DOC, DOCX), PDF, HTML, TXT, RTF, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, PRC and MOBI files.

The Nook on the other hand supports pdf and ePub documents but not DOC or HTML files which I consider to be a serious drawback.

Amazon have been in the online world a very long time and have the edge on Barnes and Noble.

Amazon were by no means the first to come up with the idea of portable e-book readers but they have demonstrated their determination to get their products out into the marketplace with a huge development program.

A further thought I have is that Amazon, by engaging the support of thousands, if not millions of internet affiliates will always have the promotional support that development of any kind needs.

Competition is certain to carry on growing amongst developers of these devices and that can only be a good thing for us, competition has and will drive the prices down and so, in the Kindle versus Nook war it is customers who win.

 QUESTION:
Nook??????????????????????
ok so im getting a nook for my birthday and was wondering if it was a good thing? And your reviews and what you think about it the quality and so forth thanx!

 ANSWER:
It would be helpful if you posted if you got e-Ink Nook or the new Nook Color.
In any case, here's the good and bad about it:
While the latest Kindle has a bit better screen than e-Ink Nook and has a better battery life (because Nook also has a little color touchscreen LCD screen at the bottom which is cool but drains battery), original Nook has a lot of advantages over Kindles:
1. Nook allows to lend books for 2 weeks to friends or to your other devices that run B&N app (PC, MAC, Android phones, Apple iPhone and iPad, etc.) Barnes & Noble allows (when you walk in with the Nook to B&N store) to read any available eBook for free while in the store via free provided in the store Wi-Fi. With Nook, while in BN store you get exclusive articles from top authors, and great offers including cafe treats and unique deals.
2. Nook (unlike Kindle) can be used for library ebooks.
3. Nook (unlike Kindle) can be used for renting text-ebooks.
Nook Color - which is a hybrid Android device - is much more than just an e-Reader but not a full tablet as it doesn't have a camera (but iPad also doesn’t have one.) Even though Nook Color has LCD screen, it's a new generation screen which is anti-glare coated and is better performing in sunlight and reducess glare all of which are dooming reading on iPad. Also, the screen is amazing and readable/viewable at wide angles. It can be used for watching video's and it doesn't "blink" on each ebook page turn.

 QUESTION:
NOOK???????????????????
got a nook wifi for christmas, and a 100$ gift card. i dont have a default cc so i am using my moms, but when i buy an ebook, it uses the cc. so how can i still have a default cc and buy it with the gift card.

 ANSWER:
You need to edit your payment options in your account. Take away the "buy now", "one-click purchase" or "quick checkout" option. Also, there should be somewhere in the account settings or checkout process to enter gift card codes. Look for it and proceed through checkout slowly to prevent B&N from charging your CC.

I'm sorry, i can't give you specifics because I use a Sony, but that's is how it works in the Reader Store. Unfortunately, all the "Nook Experts" that were here pushing their product before the holidays seem to have abandoned those who bought it.

 QUESTION:
How do you move nook books from your computer to your nook?
Wi fi is down, and a lady at Barnes and Noble said I could manually move my nook books I just purchased to my nook via a usb cable. How would I do that? I tried, and I just got an unsupportable file. Thanks!

 ANSWER:
Hi, coffee beans, first of all you could've done it right there at B&N store that provides free Wi-Fi to Nook's or any Starbucks or any McDonalds or airport or any other place that provides free Wi-Fi service.
Also, after you downloaded book to your PC do this:
1. plug the Nook to your pc with the usb cable.
2. add the books to the "my documents" folder in your Nook.
3. eject/unplug your Nook from pc.
4. go to "my library" in your Nook -> "view my documents", check for new content.
5. the ebooks you've added should pop up.
If you still have issues, setup Adobe Digital Editions (free from Adobe) on your computer:
Open ADE and the “Setup Assistant” will be displayed
Click “Continue”
The “Authorize Computer” box will display
Enter your Adobe account information
Click “Activate”
Click “Finish”

Authorize ADE on your Nook
Connect the Nook to your computer via the USB cable
Open ADE
ADE should “see” the Nook and the “Device Setup Assistant” box should appear.
Click “Authorize Device”

If ADE does not “see” the Nook, try the following steps.
Go to “My Computer” (or the equivalent on your PC or Mac) and click on the Nook drive.
Find and delete the “.adobe-digital-editions file.
Close ADE
Restart ADE
Your Nook should now be visible to ADE, if not
Go back to the Nook drive
Find the “Digital Editions” file and delete it
Close ADE
Restart ADE
Nook will be visible
Click “Authorize Device”

Downloading eBooks
This is not a standard download like you have seen or used in the past, this download is an .acsm link. After you purchase or borrow your book, click the download link or box
You should be asked if you want to open (do NOT choose to “save” the book) in “digital editions” click yes, if you are given the option to ALWAYS open the .acsm link in this program, choose yes or put the checkmark in the box.
ADE will open and your book will be downloaded into ADE

If you do not have the option to always use ADE to download the following steps will allow you to opt in for this

For Windows:
Go to Start-->Control Panel-->Default Programs-->Associate a file type or protocol with a program
The “Associate a file type or protocol” window will pop up.
Under the “Extensions” heading, select '.acsm' and click the “Change program…” button.
The “Open With” dialog box is displayed.
Click the “Browse…” button.
A second “'Open With” dialog box is displayed.
Browse to 'C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Digital Editions and select 'digitaleditions.exe'.
Click “Open”. Adobe Digital Editions is now set to open ACSM files automatically

For a Mac
Control-click the 'urllink.acsm' file and select 'Get Info'.
The 'urllink.acsm Info' window is displayed.
Expand the 'Open with:' section and click 'Other…'.
A list of programs is displayed.
Select 'Adobe Digital Editions'.
Check the 'Always Open With' checkbox.
Click the 'Add' button.
Close the 'urllink.acsm Info' window.
Adobe Digital Editions is now set to open ACSM files.

How Do I Get the Book on my Nook?
Once everything is downloaded, installed and authorized, this is the easy part! Just "grab" the book (that you have previously purchased or borrowed and downloaded into ADE) you want to copy to your Nook, drag it over to the "Nook" (on the left hand side of ADE) and drop it in!

 QUESTION:
How do i get pandora to play on my nook?
I just bought a nook. Not the color nook just the normal one. I listen to pandora all the time and i love it. I heard you can get pandora to play on your nook, is this true? Or should i just buy a nookcolor?

 ANSWER:
Hi, Casey, you need Nook Color which has several apps that already come with the device (Pandora Internet radio, QuickOffice, etc.) Also, Barnes & Noble recently released Nook SDK and Nook Developer platform that will allow most of the existing 100,000 Android apps be ported to it. Also, you can use the Social Settings screen to link your NOOK Color to your Facebook account and your Twitter account. You can also import all your contacts from your Google Gmail account. Once you have linked to Facebook and Twitter and set up email contacts, you can lend and borrow books, recommend books, and share favorite quotes with your friends.
Also, Nook Color is scheduled to get upgraded to Android 2.2 next month which will bring a lot of new features.

Amazon Squares Up To Apple: Kindle Vs Ipad

Author: Marco Gustafsson

It had to happen. Apple's foray into the eBook market with its iPad had to get a reaction from Amazon, but nobody quite expected the severity of this reaction. Amazon has responded amazingly strongly and in several different ways.

1. Kindle Apps

Prior to the iPad launch, Amazon made the announcement of the opening of an applications store, and an invitation for developers to come up with apps in the same way that they did for the iPhone and the iPad. This was an apparent attempt to offer the Kindle as a genuine competitor to the iPad.

Without some other use of the Kindle other than as a dedicated e-reader, Amazon knew that it was destined to suffer a knock-out blow from Apple. It is not easy to fight Apple's commercial and financial resources, but it can be done given the right strategy. One tactic of that strategy is to emulate what Apple has achieved in the versatility of their products, and by developing applications for the Kindle, Amazon is doing that: and taking the first step on the road to genuine multimedia capability for the Kindle.

This might conceivably be the beginning of a larger war between the two giants, involving not only eBooks, but also music, movies and all the other miscellaneous applications that have come to be associate with the iPhone and, no doubt, the iPad.

2. DRM Drop-Out

Amazon made DRM optional for publishers. With iBooks locked by FairPlay, Amazon's DRM opt-out means that users can port their eBooks to other e-readers. DRM is now optional for publishers, and while that is not a great advance for the majority of Kindle owners, it is for the smaller publishers who will now have more of an incentive to market the Kindle. It is one more in the eye for Apple, and another small advantage that Amazon is trying to gain over the iPad. According to the article "An Introduction to Popular E-book File Formats", with its own Digital Rights Management structure AZW format protects the e-book publishers and authors from possible piracy and is loosely based on Mobipocket's popular MOBI file format (Digital Book Readers).

3. Price Maintenance

Amazon took steps to protect the low prices of Kindle eBooks by maintaining a maximum price of .99 on all its publications. It is the only e-reader that does not allow publishers to apply higher pricing, and it responded to Macmillan's pressure by removing all that publishers products from its virtual library. Yes, Amazon has stated that these will be reinstated, but that has yet to happen, and Macmillan meantime has been subject to insults from Amazon on public forums.

This move was likely made in response to criticism that eBooks are too expensive in relation to their production costs and overheads. By sustaining a price ceiling of .99, Amazons maintains a level of competitiveness that other e-readers will find it hard to match, including Apple.

4. Touchco Acquisition

Each of the above three will have an influence on the outcome of the bout between Amazon and Apple, but much more significant is Amazon's acquisition of Touchco, the e-paper and touchscreen technology firm. This appears to be Amazon's ace in the hole, and the acquisition must have come as shock and a blow to Apple.

Touchco had been working on a true multi-touch screen to work with e-paper that enables unlimited simultaneous touches to be detected. Combined with the Mirasol multi-color technology on e-paper, this offers Amazon the ability to create a multi-touch color tablet device that could very easily not only compete with the iPad, but also exceed its technological capability. It is definitely a big one in Apple's eye, and the gloves are definitely off now.

The acquisition took place very secretively and quietly, and nobody had an inclination of what was going on. It is hard to believe that Apple was unaware of it, but it sure seems that way. Round 1 might have been Apple's, but Amazon has certainly won rounds 2, 3 and 4, although knowing Apple's resilience and resources, certainly not with knockout blows.

The Touchco technology might have been used with e-paper to develop cell phones, music players and a whole host of possible applications, but that is now lost in Amazon's fight with Apple for the e-reader market. Sometimes it is time for corporations to focus on their core business, because this type of infighting almost invariably ends up with no winners and the public the losers.

However, what can we look for in the near future? Likely an expansion of the Kindle, or a variant, as an iPad competitor, and almost certainly the demise of the clunky E Ink and the development of a sleeker display medium. Watch this space and get ready for round 5, because Apple will certainly not take this lying down!

 QUESTION:
When it comes to reading electronically, Apple iPad vs. Amazon Kindle?
Title says it all.

When it comes to reading a book electronically, in your opinion, which is better? The Amazon Kindle or the Apple iPad?

 ANSWER:
In spite of what Barnes and Noble claims about their "new" LCD screen, it's still an LCD, which, for many people, is not the best choice for long-form reading. NookColor's display isn't any better than iPad's. For long-form reading, e-ink is more like paper and therefore *most* people find it a better choice. Check them out side-by-side at Best Buy and then factor in the way that you read. If you read mostly books that are in black and white and you have no other use for iPad's multi-purpose platform, the huge savings alone would probably make Kindle the better way to go. That 0+ could buy a lot of e-books and accessories.

Can you read books with both ?

 ANSWER:
Kindle is definitely an amazing device. Its worth the money. You can put ebooks/notes/audio books on your kindle also Notes and annotations are very easy to make.Very easy to use with the PC and the Mac Kindle is very straight forward there's no need for additional software required for Kindle. Also supports you can also increase the text size which is again amazing.E-INK screen technology that don’t glare in any light so no strain to eyes and less harmful. There are wide range of books on kindle many are free and other are cheaper at price than the actual books so yes I have saved a lot of money till now.
You dont have to carry now all those heavy actual books, kindle is so light weight which is carrying almost 1500 books within it. Since I travel a lot I really like the 3G Internet you can get the internet wherever you go. Whenever you are tired of reading you can also you Text-To-Speech with auto-page turning feature which is jst so relaxing. If the small size strains your eyes a lot than can also change the text-size. I must say Kindle is a small magic books really I cant live without it.

For christmas I am thinking of putting down either the Amazon Kindle or Ipad on my wish list - but I have no idea which one.

i want to be able to read books but surf the web too. well mainly facebook and quizzilla

 ANSWER:
In short:

> Don't go for Nook Color. It's using backlight screen like computer screen, and is difficult to our eyes. Just not suitable for reading purpose.

> Choose the Nook if you want to be:
- Able to borrow ebooks from library to your ebook reader
- Able to read books in epub format (without need of conversion) on your ebook reader

> Choose the Kindle if you want to be:
- Able to have free 3G wireless access
- Able to download books and use 3G wireless even you're outside of the United States
- Able to have text-to-speech function to read books to you like audio books

There is also quite a good review for comparison between the two here:

 QUESTION:
iPad Vs. Kindle as an e-book reader- Which one is better...?
I want to buy one of the above and I don't know which one. I know that the iPad is much more than an e-book reader, but it is also more expensive. On the other hand, I think that the Amazon Kindle has a better screen technology (The E Ink). Which one do you prefer?

 ANSWER:
Apples and oranges.
A Kindle is an e-reader. Books are what it does best.
An iPad is a computer. It can do books, but the LCD screen will cause eyestrain.
As an e-book reader, the iPad will never be as good as any of the e-ink e-readers.

Nook vs Kindle 3 Review

Author: Elaine Currie

Which is the best electronic book storage and reading device? There are plenty to choose from. Sony, Bebook, Kindle, and Nook all have their merits. But which one can claim to be the all round best e-reader? This impartial review will tell you.

Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble Nook are the two serious contenders for the title of best e-reader. Amazon Kindle 3 and Nook overshadow the other e-readers on the scene. So, this is going to be a straight review and comparison of Nook and Kindle as the two market leaders.

Since the launch of the first models of Nook and Kindle, the enhancements of each subsequent version have brought the two contenders closer. It is harder than ever to make a decision as to whether to buy the new Amazon Kindle or the latest Nook. The two models under scrutiny here are the Kindle 3G (+Wi-Fi) and the Nook (Wi-Fi +3G).

When trying to compare and review Amazon's Kindle 3 and Barnes & Nobel's Nook it is impossible to avoid picking out the features they share. The two e-readers are the same size to within a fraction of an inch. They are the same weight to within a couple of ounces. The battery life of each of them is 10 days of reading.

The way the manufacturers have improved these two e-readers makes it hard to put either one in first place. People looking to buy an e-reader have been swayed first towards the Kindle, then towards the Nook and back again. The competition with the latest Nook and the Kindle 3 is even fiercer than with previous models. It is simply not possible to say that one is obviously superior to the other. So how do you decide on a winner in the Nook vs Kindle battle?

The selection of an e-reader is very much a matter of personal choice. The best way to compare Amazon's Kindle 3 and Barnes & Noble's Nook is to think about the way you intend to use an electronic reading device. How much do you read, what do you read, where do you read? With a clear idea of the way you want to use the reader, you can make a choice on the basis of the following features of each device.

1. International travel. Do you want to be able to download reading matter overseas? The Nook will not work outside the USA. The Kindle 3 enables you to download books in over 100 countries via GSM network. You can, however, use both of them anywhere in the world to read books you have already downloaded.

2. Weight. The Kindle is lighter (and slightly smaller) than the Nook. The difference is only a couple of ounces, but this might be important to you if you travel a lot.

3. Navigation. The Kindle has push button navigation only. The Nook has touch-screen navigation. Which do you prefer?

4. Memory size. The Kindle 3 can hold up to 3,500 books. The storage capacity of the Nook is 1,500 books. (However, the Nook has an expansion slot to expand the memory if you want to.)

5. Color screen. One other notable difference between the Kindle and the Nook is that the latter offers a color screen. This might not seem of great benefit in a reader, but this feature might be something you would prefer.

Either of these devices will prove to be excellent value for money. The ongoing competition between the two manufacturers has ensured that the quality of the products keeps going up while the prices are kept down. The choice is yours, and you can't lose.

Is there a Kindle 3 yet?
I was looking around at reviews and I saw something about a Kindle 3 being released. I tried other sites and it was confusing and I don't know if a Kindle 3 was released yet or not.

 ANSWER:
No, only the Kindle 2 and Kindle DX is selling on Amazon. Kindle 3 is never heard, just all the prediction from different people. I don't think it will be out before the end of this year.

The Kindle 2 is the most popular right now. I suggest you to read this review from a top reviewer who is also a book lover, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle and also why it is worth especially at the end of the review:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR2DUM7S4XW06QN%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB00154JDAI%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

And there are some websites like these two, where you can find more than ten thousand free books for the Kindle:

 QUESTION:
Kindle 1, 2, 3, or dx?
I'm confused. I want a kindle but my mom told me that I should research it because there is apparently something better. (Sony, or Nook. And everyone seems to like the Kindle better, which by the reviews, I think I would too) So now the question is, what are the differences between the Kindle, Kindle 2, Kindle 3, and Kindle DX? I am trying to decide whether or not I want one and which one I want because my birthday is coming up and I am pretty sure I am getting one. But I know they're a bit expensive, so I want to make sure I get a good one, and one l like. Help? Thanks! =]

 ANSWER:
Hi Kels,

From my research the Kindle 2 and Kindle DX are the top 2 ebook readers in the market.

The main difference between the Kindle 2 and Kindle DX is

1. Storage Capacity
Kindle 2 - 2GB
Kindle DX - 4GB

2. Screen Size
Kindle 2 - 6"
Kindle DX - 9.7" (suitable for older people)

3. Document Formats
Kindle 2 has no support for .PDF but Kindle DX supports .PDF

4. Weight
Kindle 2 - 10.2 oz
Kindle DX - 18.9oz

If budget is not an issue, then I would recommend you go for the Kindle DX else opt for the Kindle 2. Either way, I'm sure your Mum would be delighted to own one especially if she is an avid reader.

Hope this information was useful to you. Cheers!

 QUESTION:
Kindle Vs Nook which is best?
My Grandma wants a e-reader for Christmas. She is a little worried that the type will be to small for her to read though and she needs something that is easy to use. she will use it for reading only. I have read a few reviews and I still don't know which would be better for her. So which is better the Nook color or Kindle 3?

 ANSWER:
Nook allows to change font size to be prerry large even for your Grandma, Christa G.
You can get Nook e-Ink (3G or Wi-Fi) or Nook Color Android eReader/tablet (Wi-Fi). 3G means the internet connection is included for free for the life of the device thus you can download a new book even when you're walking on the street. Wi-Fi means that you need to have access to wireless hotspot - one example would be any Barnes & Noble store that provides free Wi-Fi to Nook's or at your home to download ebooks. Once eBooks are downloaded, you don't need Internet connection to read them. There's over a million of free public ebooks as well as over a million of ebooks that you need to pay for available through Barnes & Noble eBook store. Prices are generally much lower than for physical books.
Here's the advantages of the Nook’s (both e-Ink black & white and Nook Color) over Kindle:
- Any Barnes & Noble store provides free Wi-Fi to Nook's
- Nook allows to lend books for 2 weeks to friends or to your other devices that run B&N app (PC, MAC, Android phones, Apple iPhone and iPad, etc.) Barnes & Noble allows (when you walk in with the Nook to B&N store) to read any available eBook for free while in the store via free provided in the store Wi-Fi. With Nook, while in BN store you get exclusive articles from top authors, and great offers including cafe treats and unique deals.
- Nook (unlike Kindle) can be used for library ebooks.
- Nook (unlike Kindle) can be used for renting text-ebooks.
Nook Color is worth mentioning separately as this is a hybrid Android eReader/tablet device, something between Kindle and iPad. Even though Nook Color has LCD touchscreen, it's a new generation screen which is anti-glare coated and is better performing in sunlight and produces less glare all of which are dooming reading on iPad. Also, the screen is amazing and readable/viewable at wide angles.

 QUESTION:
How does the nook or kindle work?
Can someone explain to me exactly how it works?
Well, here's my situation. I want to get a nook/kindle for my father-in-law. He likes to own the actual books, but I was thinking that the nook would be better for taking places since he also likes to keep his books in good condition. So what I'm wondering is if you can purchase the book and then somehow also have it on the nook/kindle?

Sorry if this is confusing.

 ANSWER:
Hi, Carissa, this is not confusing at all. Here's all the answers you need.
A lot of people - especially avid readers - are initially against eReaders but they become supporters as soon as they get the device and use it for a whilte. Regular books are great indeed but people that get an eReader generally read 3-4 times more books than before they got one thus that speaks for the devices (worth the money and useful.)
You need to purchase a digital version of the book to have it on Nook or Kindle.
There are many advantages of eReaders - for example, you can put MP3's on them and listen while you read and they can hold thousands of books in digital format.
Choosing the device, you should first decide which screen you want: e-Ink or LCD. It depends on what you're reading. If just black & white novels then the better one would be Kindle or e-Ink Nook from Barnes & Noble. If you read electronic magazines or college text books with a lot of color graphs and charts or children’s' books with a lot of pictures then the better would be Nook Color LCD from Barnes & Noble. Then, you should understand the limitations of e-Ink eReaders (such as Kindle) - they are limited to be black & white for now they "blink" at each ebook’s page turn, they're not too good for web browsing, they need external light source for reading when dark, and they cannot handle videos.
You can get Kindle 3G or Wi-Fi or Nook e-Ink (3G or Wi-Fi) or Nook Color Android tablet (Wi-Fi). 3G means the internet connection is included for free for the life of the device thus you can download a new book even when you're walking on the street. Wi-Fi means that you need to have access to wireless hotspot - examples would be any Barnes & Noble store that provides free Wi-Fi to Nook's or any Starbucks or any McDonalds or airport or any other place that provides free Wi-Fi service - to download eBooks. Again, it's only needed to download eBooks or browse the Internet. Once you downloaded the eBooks to your device, you don't need Internet connection to read them. There's over a million of free public ebooks as well as over a million of ebooks that you need to pay for available through Barnes & Noble eBook store. Prices are generally much lower than for physical books.
Whichever device you choose, here's the advantages of the Nook’s (both e-Ink black & white and Nook Color) over Kindle:
Overall, Nook Color is more than e-Reader as you can also watch video and use Android applications on it. It's a hybrid device, much more than just an e-Reader but not a full tablet as it doesn't have a camera. If all you want is to read novels, Kindle (or the original e-Ink Nook) might be better for you. If you want something more from your device (color charts and graphs of college text books, photos, children's books, magazines and web sites in full color) at half of the price of iPad or Galaxy tab, then Nook Color is your best bet. at half of the price of iPad or Galaxy tab, then Nook Color is your best bet.

 QUESTION:
What are the differences between the nook and kindle?
so far what i know is that the nook has the lending a book feature and color. the kindle has text to speech. what I don't know is if they both have a web browser or if the nook has any audio books. Also can either of them download files from email?
Oh and one other feature i was curious about was if they have back lights. the Nook color looks like it does but im not too sure. thanks

 ANSWER:
Kindle requires books be from their store, or be converted to their format.

Kindle can read books to you, if the publisher hasn't been disabled that for that title (they condsider an audiobook another work, and Text-To-Speech an infringement of that other work).

You can play Audible in the Kindle though. I wouldn't doubt Nook can do that.

At one time, for a fee, you could email certain format text files to your Kindle.

AFAIK Amazon has, or is working on a lending feature.

 QUESTION:
Is it possible to import Nook or Kindle books into iBooks?
I have an iPhone and I'd rather be minimalist with my apps. I don't want 3 ebook readers, I just want iBooks. Is there a way I can import both (or either) my Nook books or Kindle books onto iBooks?

 ANSWER:
As far as Kindle goes the answer is no. I can not even copy a book from my wife's Kindle to mine as the license for the e-book does not transfer.

Edited: according to a commercial I saw on TV you can do what you ask. They must have modified the license to allow you to export to another device as long as you own the book and not someone else.

 QUESTION:
Can the nook or Kindle make collections?
I know the Sony e-reader can make collections, but
can the nook or Kindle?

 ANSWER:
Yes, there is an upcoming update for the Kindle next month that can support collections. See here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fhelp%2Fcustomer%2Fdisplay.html%3Fie%3DUTF8%26nodeId%3D200324680%26ref_%3Dhp%5Fnavbox%5Fkrec%5Fsu&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

The Nook, on the other hand, does not support collection.

I also suggest you to read this review from a top reviewer who is also a book lover, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle and also why it is worth especially at the end of the review:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR2DUM7S4XW06QN%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB00154JDAI%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Hope this helps.

 QUESTION:
What is better the nook or kindle?
I like the nook because it has the lending feature, lots of selections, and you can borrow books from the library. I don't really know much about the kindle.

 ANSWER:
-I know on the Nook you can lend the book to someone for two weeks if they also have the nook and it'll get back too you. All you need is a barnes and noble account and them as friends. I know on the Kindle 3 there working on the lending thing. There isn't one yet.

I personally prefer the Kindle.

Here are the reasons why there different.
-Kindle is in black and white, while the nook has color
-The nook is touch screen while the kindle is not
-If your friend has a nook you could borrow books from each other with your nook. It's like a blue tooth only you won't have the book when it's borrowed.
-You can read books free with the nook for a whole hour at any barnes and noble store.

They both have wireless and Mp3 which is a plus, because I love music while I read. But both Wireless are equal. You can browse on there websites BN.com or Amazon. I find it easy.

-Kindle has text to speech
-Webster dictionary when you get stuck on a word
-Over 1,000 free ebooks most are classic
-Read a free chapter digially from your kindle in sixty seconds.
-Buy a book instanly with your kindle
-The kindle screen doesn't strain your eyes while you read like a computer does over time
-The battery can last for a whole month without using it
-1 year warranty if something happens to your kindle.

It's no longer necessary to write about how desirable the Kindle is (or, for that matter, e-readers generally). Books and text and reading are with us to stay; only paper is becoming unnecessary. What we can discuss is how well a device performs its intended task(s), and how it compares to its competition on an absolute basis and for the price.

My wife and I share a last gen 6" Kindle and just received a new 6" display K3. I know, Amazon doesn't call it that, but how else can users refer to it? In twenty words or less, it is an improvement over an already excellent product. Smaller, but not too small to be held comfortably. Same size display, but sharper and crisper, better contrast. Easy to use, somewhat smaller keyboard that takes a little, but very little, getting used to. It took me a few hours to stop accidentally pressing some neighboring keys, but now using the keyboard is second nature. And the page turning buttons are silent, but have sufficient tactile feedback, excellent feel.

I found it very easy to duplicate our library from our older Kindle to our new K3, and to activate our home wifi. I don't like to say I "transferred" our books because that could be understood to mean they were taken from our old Kindle to our new one. I say "duplicate" because they reside on both Kindles. The instruction manual is detailed and somewhat lengthy, but very understandable. (It's 200 pages, but don't let that scare you; it's easy to find the parts you need, and you will never need more than a few pages at one time.) The manual is published on the device, as in the past, and can also be downloaded to your computer as a pdf file so you can read the instructions from your computer as you apply them to the K3.

If you have wifi at home, which we do, when you are in range of a wifi that you have activated in your K3, it automatically uses that wifi, instead of connecting to the 3G AT&T network, assuming, of course, you have a 3G+wifi K3. It works faster on my home wifi than on the 3G network, so much so that if I had really thought it through before I bought it, or if I were to buy another, I would probably go wifi only and save . The only reasons to get the 3G+wifi model would seem to be if you don't have reliable access to wifi or if you travel a good deal to places that don't have a lot of wifi access, but do have AT&T connectivity AND you have need to download books or periodicals on a regular basis or without delay while you are away from home or office. If you can plan ahead and stock up on a few good books, and you have reliable access to wifi, such as at home/office, McDonalds or Starbucks, I suggest you think twice about whether you want the 3G+wifi K3, or the wifi only.

Each K3 has its own email address and you can send documents to it, including Word and pdf docs, and photos. Of course, the photos are B&W, but very detailed and clear. The K3 permits surfing the web, although I haven't used it much for that purpose and, other than saying it works, I hesitate to pass judgment on how well I think someone who uses it for web browsing would like it.

I can't compare it to other dedicated e-readers because I haven't used them. People seem to be interested in how I think it compares to the iPad, which I don't own but have "played with" somewhat extensively at the Apple Store. My assessment is that there is no comparison. The iPad will do much more, but as an e-reader I think the K3 is superior. I don't need color for reading text, the K3 is a fraction of the cost, and its smaller size makes it much more convenient to tote around. However, what kills the iPad as an e-reader, as far as I am concerned, is its weight. I suspect most of us are the same in this regard, but I tend to read for an hour or two at a stretch. A pound and a half doesn't sound too heavy, but I held an iPad for five minutes, literally, and my hands ached. It is simply too heavy to use as a book reading device, while the K3 is light as a feather. For reading, a cheaper and significantly lighter K3 as a dedicated e-reader is, IMHO, the way to go (compared to an iPad). BTW, a recent (in Aug. 2010) report from Taiwan said Apple in making a 6" iPod, which, depending on size and weight, could change the equation. It will be interesting to see how the e-reader market develops. I said I can't compare the K3 to other competitors, and I won't, but I can say I am completely satisfied with Amazon as an e-book seller. I've only had a few occasions to need support (on my old Kindle), but that has also been entirely satisfactory.

Has anyone been able to get textbooks 4 college on the Kindle DX?
Ive been tryog to find college textbooks that can b read on the kindle dx. Has anyone had any success with this? Thanks!

 ANSWER:
Yes, I've got several textbooks on my Kindle already. You need to search with the textbook titles in order to find it:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26x%3D8%26ref%255F%3Dnb%255Fss%255Fb%26y%3D29%26field-keywords%3D%26url%3Dnode%253D154606011&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

And here is a review about textbooks on the Kindle:

And there is a good video here talking about textbook on the Kindle too:

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Yes, you need to search with title of the textbook in Kindle store (link below), which includes all books available for the Kindle. Seems searching with ISBN number works for paper books only, not Kindle books...

Are You to the Point of Asking Yourself, "Where to Buy Kindle 2"?

Author: dylan thomas

Besides the good looks, the new generation Kindle is also flush with supreme functional features. The ergonomics is superb too, having been ironed out of whatever shortcomings the original version endured. This technological marvel has now been packaged into a thing of beauty and functionality with accident-proof buttons, smooth rocker controls, standard keyboard and stylish overall layout.

Although the Kindle is likely to attract quite a bit of attention, that's not the intention of the design upon the reader. The objective was in fact to get the reader 'lost in your reading, not the technology'. It has so gallantly replicated the feature of a good physical book to disappear while you're reading it but can't put it down except it's now can't put the Kindle down.

The most distinguishing quality of the Kindle eBook Reader is the Whispernet. It's a wireless service for getting content and internet access. The Whispersync feature links other Kindle e-readers and its related devices like the iPhones and iPods. When you purchase the Kindle 2, Amazon will foot the bill for the connectivity of your particular e-reader.

Most Kindle review sites will not fail to mention 2 things: the price and the size of the library. At a cost of the better part of $ 400, it could be steep for some but if you're into reading, the 275,000 books available will beckon at a discounted price. Whether it's worth the money or not is an individual thing and if Amazon has its way, any book that's ever printed will have an e-version for the Kindle in future. That's a lot of books!

There's nothing like the Kindle Wireless Reading Device. You get wireless connectivity, shopping and instant 24/7 delivery all at one stop when you know Where To Buy Kindle 2.

 QUESTION:
Can I buy Kindle content from Amazon Japan and view it on my UK Kindle?
I'm studying Japanese language at University, so I was wondering if I could buy a Kindle in the UK and then have the same access to content that Japanese Kindle users have. Does any know if this is possible?

 ANSWER:
yes you can!

I love answering kindle questions, it's by far one of my favorite devices that i keep in my bag.

For starters and most importantly I own the Kindle 2 (soon to be upgrading to the Kindle DX), and it is easy for me to say I love it! I think I've read over 20 books so far.

There are other reviews on the Kindle 2 here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FB0015T963C%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Ddp%5Ftop%5Fcm%5Fcr%5Facr%5Ftxt%26showViewpoints%3D1&tag=techcomprepa-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

And for the Kindle DX:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FB0015TG12Q%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref_%3Ddp%5Ftop%5Fcm%5Fcr%5Facr%5Ftxt%26showViewpoints%3D1&tag=techcomprepa-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

I love my Kindle because it has helped me improve a lot on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I owned the Kindle, waiting time like when I'm waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some thing like that is simply wasted. Now I just need to bring the Kindle 2 along with me. Another thing I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which means I can "read" books without even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I like to use this function when I've myself busy on some boring things, say when I'm on the step machine or doing some housework...

I like reading and at the beginning I missed a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink seems to work very well, it is really like reading books... Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don't feel tired.

I linked your directly to the Kindle Store on amazon.com! I really do hope you consider getting your own =)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015T963C?ie=UTF8&tag=techcomprepa-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0015T963C

 QUESTION:
should i buy kindle or regular paperback?
Should I buy kindle or just regular paperback?
I just start reading a book, when I get bored at home. Do you think i should just buy regular paperback book or buy kindle? Sometimes i get busy when the school starts because, I focus more on the school.

 ANSWER:
I say the Kindle.

I love my Kindle 2 very much. If you're thinking about getting the Kindle, I'll say get it and you won't regret. Right now I've read over 10 books with the Kindle, and I really like the idea that I can bring and store all the books with the handy device. Besides, it uses the e-ink technology, it is really clear like reading books; and even I read with the device for long hours, I don't feel tired. The internet browsing comes handy as well when I want to look for information on some specific area. My only complaint is the white case, right now all the Kindles are in white color... I think it will be cool if I can have a black or deep blue color Kindle

Kindle books are cheaper than hard copies. I suggest you to read this review from a top reviewer who is also a book lover, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle and also why it is worth especially at the end of the review:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR9J54TZ1541OR%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Frdp%255Fperm&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

And there are some websites, where you can find more than a million of free books for the Kindle, so that's why you no longer need to get to library, you can actually own these books:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/b/?node=2245146011&tag=more_info-20

If you need to read PDF with charts and graphics, you may want to go for the Kindle DX (the new Kindle DX Graphite version is now at cheaper price and with better contrast). Read this review and you should be able to decide which one to get:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR23V08M2LNB81I%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB0015TCML0%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Hope this helps.

 QUESTION:
What is the best way to buy a Kindle and ship it to India?
I would like to buy Kindle on Amazon but they do not ship to India

 ANSWER:
Amazon do not ship the Kindle outside the US.
The best way will be to use www.usonestop.com shipping services.
They will give you a personal US address where you can ship the Kindle you bought on Amazon and forward the Kindle to your local address in India. So simple.
They also have "Buy For Me" service.

Frequently Asked Questions

 QUESTION:
Avid readers poll: How does it make you feel to see most people reading electronic books?
Instead of the real thing? I just feel sad that most people are picking up their Amazon Kindle things and reading electronic books instead of just picking up a real tangible book.

I don't know if it is just me but nothing beats the feel of picking up a good book and feeling the paper. I just love the new book smell every time I go into the Barnes and Noble stores.

I guess I am just an old fashioned sort of guy.

 ANSWER:
Same here- and not only about the smell lol. First of all, those things look like they'll hurt your eyes and isn't it nice to have a shelf full of books in your house instead of having to "delete" one every time it gets full? Well, that's just my opinion. And we have to talk soon, we haven't in a while.

 QUESTION:
What do you like best, electronic books or actual books and why?
since we are on a technological era and awful lot of things are changing, i'll like to hear your opinion
what's better the sony reader, e nook, the kindle, etc... or sticking to the old-style books and why? what are the pros and cons of each?
honestly i really really prefer normal paper made books just because the feeling of it, i love the sensation of holding the pages in your hand and the whole experience, which is not the same when reading on a screen, but still i can see the benefits of electronic readers

 ANSWER:
Let's face it, actual books are great. They've been around hundreds of years and do their job great.

However, I have purchased a Kindle. I did it so I don't have to go to the library or book stores any longer. I also bought it so I don't have to figure out what to do with the books after I've read them, which has always been a problem for me as they pile up. And I can keep my books essentially forever without them piling up.

Another thing I like is the ability to adjust the font size. As I've aged, I've started wearing reading glasses, but occassionally I get a paperback book with such tiny print it's still a struggle. I've set the Kindle so it displays a font I'm comfortable with it.

Lastly, an eBook saves trees from being slaughtered. Imagine if we all used eBooks, hundreds of thousands of trees would be spared every year.

 QUESTION:
Is it better for eyes if you read printed books or electronic books?
Is it healthier for eyes if you read printed (paper) books or electronic books(on computer screen)?

 ANSWER:
In the age of technology, though the popularity of printed books has gone down you can never underestimate the convenience and pleasure of reading a book in printed form. A lot of online shops are busy selling audio books; still printed books are a favorite among those who have grown ups reading printed books.

Audio books are easy to listen to but you are always dependent on the audio file player. You PC or laptop is dependent on the power source, which cannot be guaranteed everywhere, especially while you are travelling or vacationing.

Conventional books give you a lot of freedom to use them as and when you need them. Here are a few advantages of normal printed books over eBooks:

• Books can be used anywhere, no need to sit in a particular posture all the time. You can even read a book just before you go to sleep.
• No dependence on battery life or power source. Simply read a book while sun bathing on beach side or travelling in bullet train.
• You never strain your eyes even if you keep reading for long hours.
• Audio books are available only for new books , all kind of all time favorite books are not available in audio /MP3 form
• Easy to carry therefore no special instructions to handle required.
• Never goes outdated unless you lose interest in the subject inside.

As the times have changed you cannot afford to spend a lot of time visiting book stores, internet gives you the option of buying books online. Ordering is easy and shipping is usually done within 24 hours. A lot of used books in good condition are available online. Some of the online book stores also ship free of cost.

 QUESTION:
What are the advantages of electronic books?
Only advantages please. I also agree that traditional books have a certain ''feel'', but I just want to know the advantages of e-books.

 ANSWER:
Save paper
You don't have to build bookcases for them
It's a lot faster, if you want a quick read, just to download an e-book, instead of go to the bookstore or library.
If you have an e-book reader, you can carry a lot of books and other traditional "print" material with you (newspapers, etc.). This is only really an issue if you're on the road a lot and need to have more than one book with you.
For technical manuals and things, it can be faster to look something up, depending on your e-book reader/format.

Sorry--forgot one:

It can be less expensive to try out a new author you think you might like, since e-books are often cheaper than print books. Also, you can often find stand-alone short stories, again, allowing you to check out an author or genre.

 QUESTION:
Does anyone have a Review of the Kindle DX?
Not really sure if I want to buy it yet, has anyone tried it out/have a review?

 ANSWER:
I owned the Kindle 2 and Kindle DX has all the benefits of the Kindle 2. I do think the Kindle DX is even better than the Kindle 2, so let me give you some of my opinions. I've to say I love my Kindle 2! I think I've read over 20 books with my Kindle, no glitches so far!

I love my Kindle because it has helped me improve a lot on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I owned the Kindle, waiting time like when I'm waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some thing like that is simply wasted. Now I just need to bring the Kindle along with me.

Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don't feel tired...

For books, books for the Kindle are cheaper than that of actual books. Amazon also provides quite a lot of free or very cheap books:

I'll recommend you to read this review on Kindle DX too:

Hope this helps your decision.

I'm hoping to get a kindle for Christmas this year and I was just wondering overall how good it is? on average how much do the books cost? how is the charge? and I'm planning on getting the 0 something kindle and I was wondering if you can just buy the books immediately from the kindle device, or if you plug it into the computer? any information will help thank you!

 QUESTION:
Anyone who has the Kindle and still prefers ordinary books? Kindle owners please review your experience!?
Is there anyone out there who has the Kindle, or has used it often and still prefers ordinary books? And for the rest of you all, can you please write a review with your Kindle's performance? And are Kindle's very breakable? How are they for teens? Thanks for all feedback in advance

 ANSWER:
@ Cherry Bomb, though I'm a book lover, I get to disagree with you. The new Kindle can last for one month on a single charge, while many mobile phone (like iPhone) can last no more than one day. Is it really likely to get the Kindle out of battery?

And even though I love actual books, I've to accept the fact that ebook will become more and more popular because it is so much convenient, eco-friendly, and we can get dictionary, annotations, highlights, read aloud to us, all with a device without bringing another dictionary or pen or audio book. We can put thousands of favorite books in one, instead of bringing tiles of heavy books. It's a trend, we need to accept and live with it, otherwise even ourselves with get sunk in the wave and get lost in the society.

I miss the past time when I write and send letter with paper, but now I accept and enjoy the convenience brought to me by email. I miss the days I listen to music from cassette, but now I accept to listen music in MP3. Does cassette company closed down? Yes if they do not do other things in demand to catch up the trend. So newspapers, magazines, even though people read things from internet, many news still come from newspapers' website and if they are smart enough and do well, they can earn even more money from web advertisement on their website (you know this is the major income source of facebook). That's the future trend, don't pull people stay with you, everyone get to move

Here is another book die-hard lover, you can see how she says about the Kindle:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR9J54TZ1541OR%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Frdp%255Fperm&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Ok, enough for these. So I love my Kindle very much. If you're thinking about getting the Kindle, I'll say get it instead of other ebook readers and you won't regret. Right now I've read over 50 books with the Kindle, and I really like the idea that I can bring and store all the books with the handy device. Besides, it uses the e-ink technology, it is really clear like reading books; and even I read with the device for long hours, I don't feel tired. The internet browsing comes handy as well when I want to look for information on some specific area. My only complaint is the white case, the Kindle is only sold in white at the time when I got it, but now the new Kindle has graphite case which looks much better

And there are some websites, where you can find more than a million of free books for the Kindle, so that's why you no longer need to get to library, you can actually own these books:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/b/?node=2245146011&tag=more_info-20

If you need to read PDF with charts and graphics, you may want to go for the larger Kindle DX (both the new Kindle and the new Kindle DX are now at a cheaper price and with better contrast). Read this review and you should be able to decide which one to get:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR23V08M2LNB81I%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB0015TCML0%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Hope this helps.

 QUESTION:
I need a review on the Amazon Kindle about its Web Browsing?
Is the web browsing free? Is it any good? Give me your opinions please. Can I go to google, Facebook, and gmail? Are the images any good?

 ANSWER:
I own the Kindle 2. Yes, the web browsing is completely free. The web browser in the Kindle is a basic one, it can handle text-based website like Google and Wikipedia well, but don't expect to use it with Facebook. For text information lookup it works very well. There is no problem for gmail too, and I will send email through my Kindle device sometimes.

Images are displayed in greyscale, it is quite good as well in my opinion. As least I can recognize what the images are.

I remember I read these reviews about the benefits of the Kindle when I decided to buy my Kindle. They mentions something about internet browsing too, as far as I remember.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR2DUM7S4XW06QN%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB00154JDAI%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

I have the chance to buy a Kindle. I love to read and think I would like it. Anyone have an opinion on them?

 ANSWER:
yes! It's awesome! I highly recommend it, but its EXPENSIVE! Bought mine on Amazon.com, and last I heard they were sold out of them because Oprah mentioned them on her show. You might have to wait until after Christmas to get one. Good luck!
