Nook vs Kindle 3 Review
Author: Elaine Currie
Which is the best electronic book storage and reading device? There are plenty to choose from. Sony, Bebook, Kindle, and Nook all have their merits. But which one can claim to be the all round best e-reader? This impartial review will tell you.
Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble Nook are the two serious contenders for the title of best e-reader. Amazon Kindle 3 and Nook overshadow the other e-readers on the scene. So, this is going to be a straight review and comparison of Nook and Kindle as the two market leaders.
Since the launch of the first models of Nook and Kindle, the enhancements of each subsequent version have brought the two contenders closer. It is harder than ever to make a decision as to whether to buy the new Amazon Kindle or the latest Nook. The two models under scrutiny here are the Kindle 3G (+Wi-Fi) and the Nook (Wi-Fi +3G).
When trying to compare and review Amazon's Kindle 3 and Barnes & Nobel's Nook it is impossible to avoid picking out the features they share. The two e-readers are the same size to within a fraction of an inch. They are the same weight to within a couple of ounces. The battery life of each of them is 10 days of reading.
The way the manufacturers have improved these two e-readers makes it hard to put either one in first place. People looking to buy an e-reader have been swayed first towards the Kindle, then towards the Nook and back again. The competition with the latest Nook and the Kindle 3 is even fiercer than with previous models. It is simply not possible to say that one is obviously superior to the other. So how do you decide on a winner in the Nook vs Kindle battle?
The selection of an e-reader is very much a matter of personal choice. The best way to compare Amazon's Kindle 3 and Barnes & Noble's Nook is to think about the way you intend to use an electronic reading device. How much do you read, what do you read, where do you read? With a clear idea of the way you want to use the reader, you can make a choice on the basis of the following features of each device.
1. International travel. Do you want to be able to download reading matter overseas? The Nook will not work outside the USA. The Kindle 3 enables you to download books in over 100 countries via GSM network. You can, however, use both of them anywhere in the world to read books you have already downloaded.
2. Weight. The Kindle is lighter (and slightly smaller) than the Nook. The difference is only a couple of ounces, but this might be important to you if you travel a lot.
3. Navigation. The Kindle has push button navigation only. The Nook has touch-screen navigation. Which do you prefer?
4. Memory size. The Kindle 3 can hold up to 3,500 books. The storage capacity of the Nook is 1,500 books. (However, the Nook has an expansion slot to expand the memory if you want to.)
5. Color screen. One other notable difference between the Kindle and the Nook is that the latter offers a color screen. This might not seem of great benefit in a reader, but this feature might be something you would prefer.
Either of these devices will prove to be excellent value for money. The ongoing competition between the two manufacturers has ensured that the quality of the products keeps going up while the prices are kept down. The choice is yours, and you can't lose.

QUESTION:
Is there a Kindle 3 yet?
I was looking around at reviews and I saw something about a Kindle 3 being released. I tried other sites and it was confusing and I don't know if a Kindle 3 was released yet or not.-
ANSWER:
No, only the Kindle 2 and Kindle DX is selling on Amazon. Kindle 3 is never heard, just all the prediction from different people. I don't think it will be out before the end of this year. The Kindle 2 is the most popular right now. I suggest you to read this review from a top reviewer who is also a book lover, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle and also why it is worth especially at the end of the review:

And there are some websites like these two, where you can find more than ten thousand free books for the Kindle:

Hope this helps.

QUESTION:
Kindle 1, 2, 3, or dx?
I'm confused. I want a kindle but my mom told me that I should research it because there is apparently something better. (Sony, or Nook. And everyone seems to like the Kindle better, which by the reviews, I think I would too) So now the question is, what are the differences between the Kindle, Kindle 2, Kindle 3, and Kindle DX? I am trying to decide whether or not I want one and which one I want because my birthday is coming up and I am pretty sure I am getting one. But I know they're a bit expensive, so I want to make sure I get a good one, and one l like. Help? Thanks! =]-

Hi Kels,From my research the Kindle 2 and Kindle DX are the top 2 ebook readers in the market.
The main difference between the Kindle 2 and Kindle DX is
1. Storage Capacity
Kindle 2 - 2GB
Kindle DX - 4GB2. Screen Size
Kindle 2 - 6"
Kindle DX - 9.7" (suitable for older people)3. Document Formats
Kindle 2 has no support for .PDF but Kindle DX supports .PDF4. Weight

QUESTION:
Kindle Vs Nook which is best?
My Grandma wants a e-reader for Christmas. She is a little worried that the type will be to small for her to read though and she needs something that is easy to use. she will use it for reading only. I have read a few reviews and I still don't know which would be better for her. So which is better the Nook color or Kindle 3?-
ANSWER:
Nook allows to change font size to be prerry large even for your Grandma, Christa G.
You can get Nook e-Ink (3G or Wi-Fi) or Nook Color Android eReader/tablet (Wi-Fi). 3G means the internet connection is included for free for the life of the device thus you can download a new book even when you're walking on the street. Wi-Fi means that you need to have access to wireless hotspot - one example would be any Barnes & Noble store that provides free Wi-Fi to Nook's or at your home to download ebooks. Once eBooks are downloaded, you don't need Internet connection to read them. There's over a million of free public ebooks as well as over a million of ebooks that you need to pay for available through Barnes & Noble eBook store. Prices are generally much lower than for physical books.
Here's the advantages of the Nook’s (both e-Ink black & white and Nook Color) over Kindle:
- Any Barnes & Noble store provides free Wi-Fi to Nook's
- Nook allows to lend books for 2 weeks to friends or to your other devices that run B&N app (PC, MAC, Android phones, Apple iPhone and iPad, etc.) Barnes & Noble allows (when you walk in with the Nook to B&N store) to read any available eBook for free while in the store via free provided in the store Wi-Fi. With Nook, while in BN store you get exclusive articles from top authors, and great offers including cafe treats and unique deals.
- Nook (unlike Kindle) can be used for library ebooks.
- Nook (unlike Kindle) can be used for renting text-ebooks.
Nook Color is worth mentioning separately as this is a hybrid Android eReader/tablet device, something between Kindle and iPad. Even though Nook Color has LCD touchscreen, it's a new generation screen which is anti-glare coated and is better performing in sunlight and produces less glare all of which are dooming reading on iPad. Also, the screen is amazing and readable/viewable at wide angles.
